Cayman Islands will be hosting the Caribbean Free Trade Association (CARIFTA) games in 2010, the Annual General Meeting of the Cayman Islands Athletic Association was told recently.
The Athletic Director of Engineering, Kenrick Williams said that along with the Junior National Coach Yen and Stephon Tyrone Johnson, he has worked very hard with a group of athletes for the games.
Mr. Yen has 20 athletes who will compete in the U-17 and U-20 category in the game. Mr. Williams has 25 athletes aged 14-19.
The coach noted that the Cayman Islands athletes aiming for more medals, noting that the state earned a medal at the 2009 games.
The 38th edition of the Carifta Games in Vieux Fort, St. Lucia, ended on Monday 13 April this year with a lot of great performances, and a batch of setting records for three days of competition.
The CARIFTA Games is an annual junior athletics competition was established by the Caribbean Free Trade Association (CARIFTA). Olympic Games was first held in 1972 and consists of track and field events including sprint races, hurdles, middle distance track events, jumping and throwing events, and relays.
Olympic has two age categories: U-17 and U-20. Only countries associated with CARIFTA eligible to compete in this event.
In the Annual General Meeting of the Association as a fundamental revision of the Constitution and Byelaws made.
Some of these changes are: to include reports from abroad to meet in the annual report, the Secretary’s position title was changed to Secretary General, added the National Junior Coach is as ex-officio member of the Executive Committee.
Further meetings to change the name of the association, change the name to shorten the Cayman Islands Athletic Association of the CIAA to the Athletic Association as the CIAA are registered with another company. During the meeting decided that the executive will be a member of the sub-committee within sixty days of the annual general meeting and advise the general membership of the same.
In the meeting, adding the International Association of Athletics Federations and World Anti-Doping Agency as a reference for anti-doping committee, also announced.
