Paying tribute to the cultural goals, talents and creativity, a unique island of Montserrat will celebrate the annual carnival, known as the Festival, from December 4, 2009 – January 1, 2010. Goal to be alive with music, feasting and the events that highlight the people resilient and energetic Montserrat.
“Carnival is the highlight of our year because realizing all the elements of the neighboring islands of our ‘traditional party but with a unique talent,” said Ernestine Cassell, director of tourism. “With a wide choice of activities and events, there is something for everyone to enjoy and we encourage visitors to come to the island of Montserrat and experience the rich heritage and culture alive.”
This year the important events include: Soca Monarch, a concert featuring talented artists Soca Island, on December 19; “Nite of Pan,” where local musicians music style can be heard on steel pan, on 23; Street Jam, a street celebration life filled with music, food and “good vibrations of the island,” on December 26; Festival Queen Pageant on December 27, and the calypso finals, featuring musical highlights of the island entertainers, on December 30. Festival culminates with the New Year’s Day parade party, brightened costumed revelers who perform songs and traditional dances.
