The Montserrat Tourist Board has proclaimed the 15th Annual Montserrat Fishing Tournament Open success. Held on October 31, 2009, the show pulled the participation of 27 fishermen in eight boats, including five ships from the neighboring island of Nevis.
Along with strong support from visitors and local residents the same, also a successful event took the Minister of Agriculture, Easton Taylor Farrell and Director of Tourism, Ernestine Cassell, both on hand to welcome visiting boats and help during the prize ceremony.
Black Fin from Nevis was crowned ‘The Champion Boat’ and received a check EC $ 2500 (U.S. $ 930), offering Montserrat Tourist Board. Black fin also secured wins in two additional categories, the largest Wahoo (49 lbs) and the largest tuna (17.5 lbs).
Boat from Nevis advanced to the winners circle with Miss Bluegrass won the category for the largest kingfish caught (20 lbs) and Fast Forward to capture the largest dolphin (45.5 lbs). Montserratian, Alison Richards took home the winners prize in the category of women who caught the biggest fish (Wahoo, 28 lbs).
