From Winnipeg, Continental Airlines offers flights to Minneapolis that connect through Houston. Often there is a night or it makes for a long day to get into Continental Airlines to Belize City. United also offers flights through Denver and there are direct flights from Toronto on Air Canada once a week. A flight cost running about $ 1,000 and up depending on the flight you choose.
From Belize City, both Maya Island and Tropic Air Airlines offers flights per hour to San Pedro on Ambergris Caye. It’s $ 60 one way for 15-minute flight. You also can take a 45 minute ferry to the islands. That costs about $ 20 one way, but you have to take a taxi from the airport to the ferry terminal in city.There is an array of choices of hotels and resorts on Ambergris Caye. Here are my favorites:
Caye Winds:

The restaurant offers a taste of the real Europe thanks to the owners’ influence.
Victoria House:
Ranked one of the most sexy Caribbean honeymoon resort, Victoria House is one of the first resorts on Ambergris Caye, and continued to be one of the favorite places to stay. Run by a Vancouver couple, an elegant white complex with a variety of rooms, from charming Casitas with thatched roofs to luxury villas. There are two swimming pools are really beautiful and private beaches are groomed to perfection every morning as the staff of every last fork and cut the palm fronds of seaweed that has washed into a beautiful Victorian house offers the best island restaurant and reservations are recommended.
Cayo Espanto:
For a luxurious, Cayo Espanto is. Although there are six small private villas, the island filled with palm trees, you feel like you are on your own. The resort offers guests the most privacy and the villas are designed for a private retreat. With his own dock, beach and Houseman, you do not have to lift a finger or anywhere. Winnipeggers Ruby and Sonny Dhalla, recently opened Blue Lotus. This not-to-be-missed, authentic Indian restaurant is built right on the water at the end of the pier. It’s just amazing at night, lit by soft blue lights. The food here is incredible. Chef flown in from India and the food is prepared in an authentic tandoor oven also imported from India.
For more casual dining, Mango is a hot spot on the beach. Deck has a very charming and relaxed atmosphere. Ceviche shrimp, San Pedro’s favorite, and coconut shrimp are to die for. This is the perfect place to escape from the sun, sipping a cold drink and watch the local kids playing soccer in their school uniforms at the end of the day.
La Playa Lounge is another casual dining option. Neil Sullivan, a former developer Winnipeg, turned this small bar into place jumping on the beach, day or night. Fashioned after a luxurious resort where you sink into a comfortable bed and pillow-top leisure. Great drinks and delicious food as well, from baba ghanouj and hummus for Cuban pork sandwiches.
