Ministry of Tourism will conduct a study on the relationship between sports and tourism in Barbados to assist technocrats in formulating the necessary policies, to encourage this niche area to the front.
Acting Minister of Tourism, Senator Haynesley Benn, highlighting the importance of such initiatives, while giving the feature address at the inauguration Horse Racing Barbados Ambassador Awards. The event took place at Hilton Barbados, last Friday.
He said: “This study aims to develop a clear policy for implementation of the sports tourism initiative that will provide the greatest benefit to the country in terms of parameters, such as employment generation, strengthening foreign exchange earnings and potential business opportunities, among others. The study will be conducted with full cooperation from the Ministry of Youth, Family and Sports, National Sports Council, sports organizations and other relevant agencies. ”
Senator Benn further stated: “The people who work closely with the coordination of sporting activities to understand that while many see this business as a straightforward and simple, the truth is, a successful sporting goods calls for convincing and well-funded planning and efficient implementation.
Acting Minister of Tourism admitted that Barbados was on the right track with sports tourism is encouraged island size and limited resources. “We understand that by using these resources to maximum, we can open the doors of opportunity that enables our sports men and women to understand their opportunities in the glory of sport and to receive well-deserved reward,” Benn underlined.
